Blue nevus is a variant of a common mole

Blue nevus is a variant of a common mole. It is composed of melanocytes, the cells which produce the melanin pigment. A young male presented a dark blue lesion on his right arm.
Dermoscopy revealed a blue pigmentation and an area of brown pigmentation and dots. Features on dermoscope did not show maligancy. Mole was removed with cosmetic radiosurgery and specimen sent for histology. Pathology revealed a blue nevus.

Melanocytic naevi

Atypical naevi are moles (melanocytic naevi) that have unusual features such as an indistinct edge and/or larger size. They may resemble a cancerous mole (malignant melanoma), but are actually benign.

They are also sometimes called dysplastic naevi, but this is term is best used by pathologists for a specific microscopic appearance. Other names for atypical naevi include active junctional naevi, B-K moles and Clark's naevi.

A 68-year-old woman consulted for this pigmented lesion on her back. Dermoscopy revealed an asymmetric lesion with an atypical reticular and homogenous pattern , a few subtle blue-white structures (circle) and brown dots (arrow). Lesion was excised with radiosurgery and sent for histology which showed dysplastic naevi.

Dermatofibroma

A dermatofibroma is a common overgrowth of the fibrous tissue  situated in the dermis (the deeper of the two main layers of the skin).  It is quite harmless and will not turn into a cancer.  Another name for dermatofibroma is histiocytoma. This woman presented a dermatofibroma on her lower right leg confirmed by a biopsy.

Basal Cell Carcinoma

Basal cell carcinoma (pigmented): A 30-year-old man consulted for this pigmented lesion on his back.

Pearly Penile Papule

Pearly Penile Papules
Pearly penile papules, a condition which causes pin-headsized outgrowths arranged neatly in rows on the base of the head of the penis may be mistaken for genital warts. They are not warts nor genital warts, they are harmless. Radiosurgery for the warty penile lesion with excellent results.

Skin Tags removal

Skin tags are very common soft harmless lesions that appear to hang off the skin. They are also described as:

  • Acrochordons
  • Papillomas
  • Fibroepithelial polyps
  • Soft fibromas
  • Pedunculated (this means they are on a stalk)
  • Filiform (this means they are thread-like)

Skin tags develop in both men and women as they grow older. They are skin coloured or darker and range in size from 1mm to 5cm. They are most often found in the skin folds (neck, armpits, groin). They tend to be more numerous in obese persons and in those with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Seborrhoeic or seborrheic keratoses are very common harmless skin lesions that appear during adult life. Seborrhoeic keratoses may also be called basal cell papillomas, senile warts or brown warts.

Seborrhoeic keratoses are harmless and rarely or never become malignant.

They appear to stick on to the skin like barnacles.

Seborrhoeic keratoses appear on both covered and uncovered parts of the body. There may be one or many of them

Radio Surgery is ideal treatment with excellent results.

Cosmetic radiosurgery - xanthelasma

Xanthelasma

Xanthelasma resection with the use of radiosurgery, resulting in rapid and uncomplicated healing.

Pyogenic granuloma is a relatively common skin growth that presents as a shiny red mass. It is sometimes called ‘granuloma telangiectaticum’. The surface has a raspberry-like or raw minced meat appearance. Although they are benign (non-cancerous), pyogenic granulomas can cause problems of discomfort and profuse bleeding.

Best treatment and results with radio-surgery. Minimal bleeding and scaring.

Verruca: plantar wart is a viral wart on the sole of the foot. It is the same as a common wart, but the weight of the body presses it into the foot, which can be painful.
